Tales
of the Unexpected was indeed
a peculiar title. It featured both suspense, some crime, sci-fi (Space
Ranger) and adventure stories in its 104 issue run from 1956-1968. When
it changed its name into simply The Unexpected, the change was not
towards more horror/mystery/suspense, although it was not always as noticeable.
By the early seventies, however, the various genres had given way and only
weird stories remained.
Recurring character Johnny Peril showed up in #s106-114, 116, 117,
in a reprint in #158 and again in #s200, 205-213. A feature called Tales
Of The Mad Mod Witch ran in at least #s 105, 109, 111, 112 and 140.
At the end of the run, other DC weird
titles were cancelled, and leftover inventory stories from House
of Secrets and Witching Hour were integrated
from #189 onwards. One story from the sci-fi series Time Warp was
used in #210.
Run: #105 (February-March 1968)-#222 (May 1982).
