By far my favorite DC "weird" series of the seventies, Witching Hour
only lasted 85 issues. But what issues they were! Hosted by the Three
Witches Cynthia (the looker), Mathilde (the fat one) and Mildred
(the hag), this series feautured some of the best writing and spookiest
art of all weird titles. Furthermore, it had the best hosts! Visualized
intially by legendary artist Alex Toth, these ladies (obviously
based upon the various EC hosts) introduced many a scary tale that
kept me awake at night! The first issues featured the big guns of DC,
at least artwise. Later on a lot of talented artists, both new to the
field and old seasoned veterans, came on board.
After the 85th issues, inventory stories were used in The Unexpected
starting with issue #189.
