Welcome to Ramon Schenk's Weird Comics!

My name is Ramon Schenk and I am a Dutch comic book collector. My main interests lie in the older comics, from the Bronze Age back, of the "weird" variety, meaning horror, suspense, mystery, sci-fi, whatever you want to name it.

I'm not buying that many new comics anymore. Partly because I feel out of touch with the new stuff, and partly because there is so much old stuff to be had that's a lot better!

To let other collectors share some of the gems from my collection I decided to make a website with some of my favorite cover scans. (The fact that it's great fun helped as well!) Eventually I hope to include a whole lot of large size scans to go along with my thumbnail-size pics, but not just yet...

If there are any errors, additions, or if you just want to give me your opinion, please e-mail me at:

Comic Book Interests - Publishers
I have several fields in which I collect. First, there are the publishers. I collect practically everything from Charlton (see menu on the left!), Atlas/Seaboard (again the left hand menu) and Dell/Gold Key/Whitman (left). The only series I have only limited interest in, are the titles from the Humor genre. Again, the "weird" genres have my preference.

Comic Book Interests - "Weird" genres
Although I collect most genres (again, with the notable exception of Humor titles), my great loves are the vague genres that are variously called "horror", "fantasy", "suspense" which I sum up with the word "weird". Some publishers, such as Atlas/Seaboard, Charlton and even smaller publisher such as Archie/Red Circle and Skywald were really on a roll in this genre, which had its heydays (in my humble opinion) in the early to mid seventies.

Comic Book Interests - Creators
I have one true favorite when it comes to creators: Gil Kane. Although he passed away recently, his art remains, and I want it all! Especially during the mid seventies, his covers created the face of literally hundreds of comics books. During that era, he worked mostly for Marvel, but some of the work he did for DC and Tower is truly outstanding as well.

Steve Ditko
is another favorite. Although I'm not all that impressed about his more recent, philosophical work, he created some true masterpieces during the fifties and sixties, both for Marvel and Charlton. His superhero work can't be forgotten either, with such masterpieces as The Hawk and the Dove, The Creeper and Shade, The Changing Man. Other creators whose work I admire are (alphabetically): Pat Boyette, Gene Colan, Mike Kaluta, Jack Kirby, Joe Maneely, and many more who I can't think of just right now!
